STAY HYDRATED | THREE WAYS TO BOOST YOUR HYDRATION ROUTINE

Hydration is something that I am sure we have all heard is a necessity when it comes to health, fitness, and performance. But there can be a lot of missing information when we talk about hydration. Generally speaking the piece I almost always see missing is not water, but electrolytes. For example, my wife literally drinks twice as much water per/day than what is suggested for her. Yet she is constantly told she is dehydrated!
Reason? She is not great at getting a full gamut of electrolytes throughout the day. Electrolytes such as sodium and potassium help you absorb the water that you are drinking. So adding them to your water will greatly increase your ability to retain your water and be more hydrated.
Here are some tips to help you optimize your hydration routine:
ADD ELECTROLYTES TO YOUR WATER!
There are a few different ways that you can add electrolytes to your water. Picking which one is right for you is all preference, but know that you need to add something to your water!
Things like Mio or LiquidIV are two water additives that I personally like and endorse all people to add to their hydration routine. They come in packs that allow you to easily carry them with you and add them to any water source you have throughout the day.
Homemade Additives (Meathead Lemonade)
Before I would use Mio or LiquidIV I would make my own additive to my water. This is meathead lemonade, it is a common thing in some circles but not a very well-known method to easily add electrolytes to your water. Add Pink Himalayan Salt and Lemon Juice in a glass or bottle of water and make sure you mix it until the salt has dissolved! YOU DO NOT WANT TO DRINK A CLUMP OF SALT! I sometimes will also add Mio to this as well, for flavor.
START YOUR DAY WITH A GLASS
The first thing I consume for the day is a glass of water with Mio in it. Starting the day with hydration is important as a lot of us sweat in our sleep and your body has gone the entire night without hydration. So start your day with a glass and jumpstart the hydration process early!
This is also HIGHLY IMPORTANT for those of us who down coffee like it is water!
ONE OUNCE PER ONE LB OF BODYWEIGHT
Some may have already heard this suggestion, but I wanted to reiterate and share it with those who may not have. The general suggestion of water consumption is 1/2 to 1 ounce of water per POUND of bodyweight. This can be a daunting task, as you start to do the math and realize how much water that is. But, understand 70% of your body is water, and all of your muscles, tendons, and blood need water to function optimally.
These three tips will improve your hydration routine tremendously. Start with one and get used to doing that one extra thing and add in another after a few weeks. Make small improvements each day, week, month and soon you'll be all dialed in!
